Mission

Our Vision

Indigenous communities, having been strengthened in their culture and organizational ability, are capable of creatively confronting society (technology, markets, economic systems, etc.) without losing their roots while contributing with their values and knowledge to the construction of a national identity.

A rural existence with an improved quality of life. New challenges for a shared life that offer subsistence strategies for rural communities that are both motivating and economically viable. Access to training and development are provided to those who remain in their traditional communities, supported by a reflection into their cultural past, their country, and their world, which allows them to decide how best to interact with greater society.

Our Mission

To promote the development of traditional indigenous communities, impoverished by dependence on agriculture, by providing complimentary resources through the organization of ethno-development projects. ASUR conceives of the economic progress of indigenous peoples as inseparable from their cultural setting, prioritizing artistic handcraft activity (allowing for both aesthetic and intellectual expression as well as a programmed sustainable income) without excluding other productive possibilities.

To undertake anthropological research (ethnological, ethno-historical, ethno-musical, and archaeological) in order to revive the knowledge of and about indigenous societies. Use of this revival not only for its promotion and appreciation by others but moreover and fundamentally within indigenous communities themselves as new aesthetic and cultural creations and as tools for promoting dignity.

To promote the production and marketing of high quality artistic handmade indigenous crafts with the objective of generating new skills, employment, and income opportunities in rural areas, reinforcing the organizational capacity of grass-roots producer groups and boosting the capacity of communities in becoming protagonists in the development of local tourism.
